What areas do you serve?
Lotus Blossom Birth is currently serving Erath, Hood, and Hamilton and the surrounding counties. Ally currently lives in Hico, Texas, while Amanda lives in Stephenville, Texas. This gives us the opportunity to serve a further area. We do have rights to a birthing center in Waco, Texas, if that is a viable option and will be discussed on a case by case basis.
Is homebirth safe?
YES!! I realize you may think I am a bit partial, so I will include some amazing studies to this question so that you can see for yourself that in most low-risk pregnancies, homebirth is just as safe, if not safer, than hospital birth.
What happens in the case of an emergency?
We firmly believe that the majority of births, if not tampered with, progress normally and naturally. However, every now and then, a complication arises that we are not equipped to deal with at home. In that case, we transfer to the hospital. This is very rarely the case, and even more rarely, not a time-sensitive emergency. We often have time to pack a bag, and leisurely drive to the hospital, knowing that we need the medications and/or skills they can offer. In a true emergency, EMS will be called and proper actions taken until their arrival.
Who all will be at my birth?
That all depends on you. Ally and Amanda attend almost every birth together, but in the case of illness or a competing birth, we have other midwives that we can count on to assist at a birth. Your birth will always have two trained professionals in attendance.
As far as family or friends, that is your choice. We love family and friends and love that you would like to share your joy with them in attendance. There is no limit to the amount of people surrounding you as you birth your baby; we only ask that they be considerate of your space.
Do midwives use real medical equipment?
This is a frequent question we are asked.
Do we arrive at your birth with essential oils and homeopathy and herbs? Absolutely!
Do we boil water and need clean towels? Probably all the towels you’ve got!
However, we also arrive with oxygen and other necessary resuscitation equipment, pharmaceuticals, and years of training and education under our belt. We do not offer pharmaceutical pain relief, but we have all the life-saving medications stored away in our bag, in the event that they might be needed.
Do you accept insurance?
Lotus Blossom Birth does not currently accept insurance plans. We can, however, give you a super bill at your final visit that you may use to turn into your insurance or HSA for reimbursement. We do offer a cash discount for those currently on Medicaid.
How many births have you attended?
We have attended over two hundred births, most of them as a team, whether as doulas, student midwives, or in Ally’s professional practice.
